Science Fair

On the 18th of September we had our school science fair.

This was to showcase our learning over the term. We displayed our science process and what we did to get to our inquiry of butterflies.

More science experiments

We have done more experiments over the term. These have all been to do with the theme of change. Look at how we changed the colour of a white flower!

We also have made an egg float - we only used water and salt.
We observed that when we put the egg in the water it sank and when we added salt it floated.
Using the iPads we found out that the egg sank in tap water because the egg was more dense (heavier) than the water. The egg floated in the salt water because the egg was less dense (lighter).

 

Stepping Out: Being safe on the roads

 Listening to Constable Lorena tell us how to cross a road and be safe on driveways.

 We are learning how to cross a road safely. We need to stop, look both ways, check the car has stopped then we can cross the road.

  We got to have a look inside a police car and we even got to sit inside (on a booster seat of course!)

 We got to look at the spikes they put down on the roads to stop speeding vehicles in a chase.

Science!

Today we did our first science experiment. We were learning how to make a prediction and then write about what we observed.

Our science experiment was called moving milk. Miss Read had put milk into an icecream container and we put a few drops of food colouring into the milk. We had to predict (guess) what we thought was going to happen when we put in dishwashing liquid.

When we put the dishwashing liquid in we observed (saw) the colours went everywhere and the milk made colourful patterns and squiggly lines.

We are going to talk about why that happened on Monday.

100 days!

Today Room 15 celebrated 100 days at school! We all brought in 100 things and we glued them onto our collection sheets. We also made a 100 day crown and using our bodies we made a 100. We also did heaps of counting activities. One of our parents brought us in a cake to celebrate the day - it was delicious!!

Buddy Reading

On Wednesdays, we go and visit Room 9 for buddy reading. We are so lucky because they help us with our reading and they also read to us. This term we are going to be doing more learning activities with them such as Te Reo Maori, Writing and Science investigations. We are looking forward to it!

Te Reo Maori

We love learning new Te Reo Maori words. For Maori language week last term we learnt how to ask someone how they are and we also learnt how to reply.

Kei te pehea koe? Means how are you?
and you reply by saying Kei te ___(feeling)_________ au.
